R144	R144, ELASTIN-RHODAMINE, 200-400 Mesh	500mg 1g 2g 5g	Elastin-rhodamine is prepared from Elastin (EPC No. E60) by labeling covalently with rhodamine-B-isothiocyanate. The particle size 200-400 mesh (75-37 micron). Soluble peptides absorb maximally at 550 nm. Fluorescence should be determined using excitation of 550 nm and emission of 570 nm.
ES80	ES80, ELASTIN-FLUORESCEIN, Pass 400 Mesh	500mg 1g	Elastin-fluorescein is prepared by labeling Elastin (EPC No. E60) with fluorescein-isothiocyanate (isomer 1) and milling to particle size pass 400 mesh (Smaller than 37 micron). Smaller than 37 micron size is advantageous as substrate in the elastase diffusion plate. The minute particles form a fine, homogenous dispersion in the agar gel. Zones of elastolysis are usually free of elastin particles yielding clear boarders. Preparation of the elastase diffusion plate with Elastin-Fluorescein (EPC No. ES80) can be found under Methods. You can also purchase the plates, EPC No. A622 and A622B, Alphasin , Elastase Diffusion Plates. This elastin is insoluble in biological buffers.
HB96	HB96, Human Lung Elastin-RBB	2mg 5mg 10mg	Human lung elastin (EPC No. HS395) labeled with the chromophore remazolbrilliant blue (RBB). The RBB is bound to elastin by ether linkage and is resistant to non-specific elution. This substrate is useful for determination of specific elastolytic activity of human sputum elastase; see Methods.

Generally, the ligament is manually freed of gross connective tissue, fat and muscle then pulverized. The mulch is boiled in water to remove soluble proteins then boiled in alkali to remove resistant proteins. The washed insoluble mulch is hydrolyzed and further purified by cellulose chromatography and lyophilized. Hygroscopic.
