Macrocyclics was founded in 1995 by Prof. A. Dean Sherry for his pioneering research in the development of metal ion macrocyclic ligands and their use as MRI contrast agents. His pioneering work sparked the interest of many researchers in the field and sparked a demand for macrocyclic chelators prepared in Sherry's lab. Due to the challenges of synthesis and purification, Professor Sherry often receives sample requests from colleagues that are beyond the management capacity of his UTD research laboratory. The result was the birth of Magnetic Resonance Solutions in 1993, later renamed Macrocyclics in 1995.
